Firefighting Force


 
     The Bureau of Fire Protection under the supervision of the Department of Interior and Local Government, It is tasked  with the protection of lives and properties through firefighting and information and education campaign on fire  safety and  prevention.  The bureau is also responsible for the implementation of the Fire Code of the Philippines (P.D. 185). One non-government firefighting unit, the SCCCI Filipino-Chinese Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade has its own firetrucks, firefighting equipment, and volunteers responding to firecalls in General Santos and other nearby towns .
     General Santos Fire Department has 1 Sub-Station with locations  at Barangay Calumpang.    There are 30 fire personnel  and six firetrucks distributed among the different  Fire Station. 

Health Programs


     Maternal Care Program

    Maternal Care is one of the priority of the  General Santos City Health Department. It consists of comprehensive health services provided to mothers throughout pregnancy, labor and puerperium. The program aims to improve the over-all reproductive health status of women in order to uplift their status and general welfare, thus ensuring the health and welfare of their children in particular and their families in general. Services include adequate prenatal, natal, postnatal care, food and micronutrient supplementation, dental care, tetanus toxoid immunization, family planning services, and health counseling
.
         
     Child Care Program

Under Five Clinic (UFC)

     Under-Five Clinic is a package of health services rendered to children ages 0-59 months old. The package  includes immunization, nutrition, control of diarrheal diseases (CDD), control of acute respiratory infection (CARI), and growth monitoring through the use of growth monitoring chart.
 

Anti-polluting Treatment

 
     Frequent spraying of anti-polluting chemicals and insecticides were being administered to ensure that mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, rats and other rodents and diseases carrying insects are eliminated. Garbage were also covered with filling course material. These garbage are filled at central landfill area at Barangay Siguel.

Maintenance and Beautification of City Streets


     In maintaining the cleanliness of City Streets and their corresponding shoulders, curbs and gutters, the services of casuals/personnel were employed. These street cleaners were provided with dustpan, broomsticks, rakes and raincoats in their daily work responsibilities. Daily inspection and follow-ups were done by their respective assigned timekeepers, capataz, and foreman so as to ensure efficient work performance. Casuals were employed to upkeep the maintenance of cleanliness in different areas especially around the General Santos Park/Plaza Heneral Santos, commercial centers, main roads and markets. Streets which are given priority are Acharon Boulevard, Santiago Boulevard, Pioneer Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, Pendatun Avenue and other intermediate streets in the commercial center.
 

Public Cemeteries in Gensan

     There are four (4) public cemeteries located in selected barangays in General Santos City, these are: Fatima, San Jose, Conel and the Mabuhay.  

     There are two (2) existing memorial parks in the city, namely: Forest Lake San Carlors and Chinese Memorial Park both located at Barangay Apopong. These memorial parks are well maintained and serve as first class cemeteries.
 

GSC Fuels Retailing Industry


One of the bustling industries in General Santos City is the fuels retailing industry.
 
Today, it has over twenty retail stations in the city,  leading players include Shell, Caltex, Phoenix, Petronas and Jetti.
